NHP shortlisted for Public Services Social Enterprise of the Year

Posted 9th September 2025

We are delighted to share that the National House Project (NHP) has been shortlisted for Public Services Social Enterprise of the Year at the UK Social Enterprise Awards 2025.

Run by Social Enterprise UK, the Awards celebrate excellence and impact across the sector, showcasing the diversity and difference made by organisations working to deliver social and environmental value.

Social enterprises are businesses that trade for a purpose, reinvesting profits to further their mission. With around 131,000 social enterprises in the UK employing 2.3 million people, we are proud that NHP has been recognised among the very best.

Being shortlisted is recognition of the work of young people, Local House Projects, staff and partners who together have created a model that enables care-experienced young people to live connected and fulfilling lives.

Mark Warr, CEO said, “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Public Services Social Enterprise of the Year Award. Our organisation started because young people told us that the leaving care process could — and should — be better. They wanted to be better prepared, they wanted to have some choice about where they lived, they wanted to leave care with their mates and be part of a community; they wanted somewhere that was a home and where they could stay for as long as they wanted and they wanted support to continue and not stop at some arbitrary age.

"The National House Project provides care-experienced young people with the skills, knowledge and support networks they need to move into their first home and lead interdependent, fulfilling lives through their Local House Project. Over 990 young people are now part of a House Project, and more than 590 have moved into their own home over the past 8 years — with no tenancy breakdowns or evictions. We’re currently working with 22 Local Authorities and expect this to grow over the next 12 months. With around 13,000 young people leaving care each year across the UK, we remain committed to creating opportunities for these young people to thrive.”

We will join other finalists and sector leaders at the awards ceremony at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London’s Southbank Centre, on 26 November, when the winners will be announced.
